Ukraine

How can the country be summed up?

Is it in corruption, Political wrangling, prostitution, an ex-soviet city?
These are the common impressions of Ukraine by many here in the UK at least. At best it is suggested that the women are beautiful.
There is some truth in all of this but Ukraine is much more.

Yes it suffered greatly under the Soviets who attempted to brutally eradicate a thousand years of history and culture. By 1940 there were around 500 parishes in the whole of the Soviet union compared with 56,000 before the revolution.
While they Soviets did build some impressive war monuments, the typical soulless Soviet concrete blocks were raised. however despite this in the Ukraine at least there is still no shortage of beautiful architecture.
It is rich in history, culture and heritage and many beautiful people and this time I am referring to the personality.

While I met some Ukrainians who would like to live abroad, I feel the country has something the UK and perhaps Western Europe has lost. Ukraine is one of my favourite countries.

I decided to visit Ukraine in 2010, making the trip in 2011.
The places I saw all were fascinating in their own way: Kiev, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Donetsk, and Lviv, there are plenty of places I haven’t seen such that I wish to in future such as Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Odessa and Yalta.
